Laurel's Adventures

Laurel was an absolute darling during our foster day! We started by taking her to the Eno River for a walk. After some initial excitement at being outdoors, she became calm and comfortable walking with us. Midway through the walk, she stopped to cool herself in the grass and was a perfect joker rolling around with a big smile on her face. After the hike, we took Laurel to our home to meet our cat, Bingley (another APS rescue). Laurel was gentle and curious, wagging her tail while carefully sniffing the strange (and tense) beast. She didn't lunge or bite at our cat, but she did bark once just to let him know she was excited. After Bingley retreated, Laurel spent a half hour on the ground floor chasing (and flattening) an oversized tennis ball we had lying around. She had a lot of fun playing fetch. She seemed to love the feel of the carpet and would stretch herself out like a bearskin rug and roll around to feel every inch of it. On the carpet with her, we scratched her belly and her head. She seemed to feel so comfortable with us that she surrendered to all the scratching, laying her head on my chest. After some time at our home, we took Laurel to the public park behind our apartment for a quick jog. She ran around in the grass with her long tongue wagging. Since it was a hot day, she could only take so much. Eventually, she collapsed in the shade of a tree (for more rolling in the grass). After a quick drink, we took Laurel to Alivia's for lunch. We tied her to a post near our table and let her soak in the new surroundings. She was curious about the other dogs on the restaurant's patio and let out a yip every now and then. She was very comfortable with the people eating, and even licked the hand of a gentleman who was sitting next to us. The man commented at how friendly and pretty she was. The man's friend had confessed he had been scared of Pit mixes that is, until he met Laurel and saw how she was with us. Once we had finished lunch, we knew our day was coming to a close. We took Laurel to Duke's East Campus trail for one last walk. At first, she seemed to have a lot of energy left in her tank. Whenever a jogger would pass us, she had to follow them. After some walking, though, she collapsed in a heap on the side of the trail to cool off. We took her into the shade, and she sat with  us calmly until it was time to head back. On the way back to our car, she was walking right beside us, looking up every now and then to check on us. Laurel was a joy and would make any owner very happy with her responsiveness, her energy, and her love. Below are some pictures of our day with her.

Rupert's Day Out

This adorable guy is Rupert. Rupert, my sister, and I spent a few hours at Duke Gardens. During our time together, he showed me what a wonderful companion he would be. He can be calm and gentle, yet enthusiastic and playful. As we were making our way through the trails in the woods, he walked nicely by my side without pulling. Many people stopped to comment on his beautiful outward appearance. However, the kind remarks didn't stop there. Once they saw how friendly he was, they continued to comment on his lovely demeanor and personality. When we got to an open field, we laid out in the sun. His affectionate side came out as he cuddled up close and put his head in my lap. Later, we ran through the field as he playfully and excitedly chased my sister.  

Cuddly Betsy!

Betsy is a dream dog! She's young, sweet, and oh so cuddly! She spent the weekend with me and I couldn't have been more impressed. She's completely house-trained and didn't have any accidents even though she was in a new place. She was great in her crate overnight, settling down easily and never complaining. Many of my neighbors have dogs and Betsy greeted them very politely while we were out walking.

The best part though - and this is really important - is that Betsy gives the best snuggles. She is an absolute lap dog who just loves to be touching you. She'll give great kisses, loves and the cutest puppy smiles!

Twins with Twins

Polly and Holly

These two little cuties are just so affectionate and loving. We (and yes we are twins) had the joy of spending part of our day walking and playing with them. When we first saw Polly and Holly we were very excited. Although we both volunteer, we often do jobs and tasks separately, so it was nice to have the opportunity to do something together. Holly and Polly are so adorable and so friendly. They were very happy and excited to see us. We instantly fell in love with them. They are so energetic and playful. They love toys and running around in the play pen. Although we enjoyed play time, our favorite part was cuddling with them. We would both sit on the ground and Holly and Polly would pick a person and just crawl right into our laps. It's a good thing that both of us were there because they both want attention. They are very gentle and love cuddling. They especially enjoy belly rubs.
